and he says this area is especially violent. they need more information if you have any information it would like to hear from you and your reporting live from antioch, mike pelton, kron 4 news. >> in oakland shooting near jack london square. it happened in broad daylight saturday afternoon and just blocks away from the police department. police say the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. the suspect is still on the loose. and in concord, police are looking for the person that released pepper spray in a grocery store. at least 20 people were sickened by the spray last night at a foodmax store on monument boulevard. hazmat members checked for any other dangerous chemicals. but didn't find any. >> the salvation army is stirring controversy on the u-c berkeley campus. the student government is upset over what it says is discriminatory policy against gays and lesbians by the salvation army. kron four's philippe djegal explains some students want bell ringers banned from the university.

forces in the country worked with the afghan military in the rescue operation. it 's not clear whether the doctor was harmed by his captors. but we do know that the doctor will be able to rejoin his family for the holidays. pakistani intelligence officials say a u-s drone strike killed a senior al- qaida leader. they say the al qaida commander died when missiles hit a house near the afghan border. his wife was killed, his daughter was wounded in the attack. officials say the al qaida leader became second in command in june after another senior leader was strike. >> egypt's liberal opposition group is calling

for more protests today. this comes after president mohamed morsy rescinded a decree that gave him near absolute power. however, morsy is going a constitution adopted by his islamist allies. so now, the 'national salvation front' is calling for a demonstration against that referendum. venezuelan >> president hugo chavez will return to cuba today after announcing that his cancer has returned. chavez says he'll undergo more surgery. the 58-year-old president said tests show the return of malignant cells in the pelvic area where tumors were first removed. chavez won re-election in october. he said for the first time yesterday that if his health were to worsen, his successor would be venezuela's vice president. outside this morning. power is back on for 19- hundred p-g-and-e customers a live look outside. a beautiful day in the san jose south bay. hundred1900--customers of pg&e customers in el sobrante following an outage late last night. utility officials say a failed power switch caused the outage just after eleven. p-g-and e restored the power in about half an hour. meanwhile, a power pole was reported down about a block away from the source of the outage. it is not clear how the pole came down but utility officials say it's not related to the outage. a car hit a power pole in sunnyvale around 3:15 a.m., causing an outage for thousands. initially, it left 65- hundred people in the dark in cupertino, sunnyvale, los altos and los altos hills. currently, the outage is down to about 2-hundred- and-40 customers. p-g-and-e expects to restore service to them by about 3:30 this afternoon. >> port of oakland employees have voted to accept a four-year contract agreement. the agreement was reached after a 24-hour strike last month that disrupted port operations. the tenatative agreement

includes a cost of living raise for employees, a 35- hundred dollar signing bonus and other provisions. the contract now goes to the for approval. >> in the east bay, three teenagers were arrested on charges of making homemade pipe bombs and detonating them. one of the explosions destroyed a mailbox in pleasant hill friday night. but police say it could have been much worse. kron-4's aleica reid explains the bomb squad had to be called in when officers caught up to the juveniles. >> that was the walnut creek bomb squad and definitely a bomb early sunday morning of your memo we got a call of an explosion on a neighborhood of christine court. we found that a mailbox had been destroyed by an explosive device. >> this is the mailbox fetish read it to pieces. it started when there is a huge blast on this normally -- this mail box was--shredded it to pieces.

heavenly ski resort. sunny and windy conditions in the sierra today with highs reaching the mid- 40's. just a glorious sunday morning in the cirrus. in the sierras- >> volunteers in the south bay spent part of this weekend building thousands of bicycles for kids. kron-4's jeff pierce reports on the good deed for children who might not otherwise get a present for christmas. bicycles, thousands of bicycles were being built in san jose saturday morning by turning wheels an organzation that gives them to children that would probably never have the opportunity to have a shiny day. >> you can't get a better gift than a bike and you ride it everyday, you ride it to >> turning wheels has been building new bicycles for eight years and this year more then three thousand bicycles were assembled by more than a thousand volunteers who took joy in their tasks >> every kid deserves a bike and a good christmas so it's fun.

it was the best present i ever had so i know how good it feels to get a bike. >> i enjoy seeing the kids get bikes so it's a good feeling. >> turning wheels has had no difficulty finding bicycle builders. we opened registration and within four minutes we closed registration we have a thousand builders. >> corporate sponsers and local fire departments had to compete for a spot for a team to assemble the bicycles. we tried to get a team for the last two years but as you can see they have an abundance of teams and we actually got denied a couple of years but we finally got in and we're having a good time doing it. once people come they come year after year after year. the pictures that i saw from last year of the kids getting there bikes it really made me want to come down and help out. >> the bicycles are distributed to local charities who make sure that deserving children receive a bicycle this christmas. some lucky children got to assemble their own bicycle. >> we actually teach them how to put together a bike which is a lot of fun for them. for director sue runsvold it is all about the season. >> i kind of well up on

>> the police and antioch are investigating a man was shot in front of this home near banyan the road. the 43 year old had multiple gunshot wounds. so far, no arrests had been made. we will have a live report with mike pelton. >> a developing story in san jose. police say 14 year old boy was stabbed during a christmas in the park event. it's the first serious crime to happen at the annual celebration in some time. the christmas in the park celebration attracts some 450-thousand visitors each

year. police say they say the stabbing was gang related. the 14 year old suffered stab wounds to his chest and arm. three suspects were seen running away. >> a sign of the season in downtown san francisco this weekend. traffic is higher than usual with shoppers and drivers packing the area in and around union square. more now from kron four's jeff bush who braved the holiday crowds. >> traffic has been crazy down here at union square but those who chose to drive had to be patient because it's been a slow roll all day long. the drive down oferrel street was a slow motion affair and it took several cycles of the traffic lights just to move a block. it was a convergence of pedestrians and other drivers and total gridlock was often the case at any given intersection within a mile of the square. or impacted the outside curb costs mccarter to flip. they believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident. he was asked to perform a field sobriety tests >> the cowboys released a statement saying the team is deeply saddened by the accident and brown's death. >> police have released the dashcam video of officers questioning kansas city chiefs linebacker jovan belcher at three a-m. just hours before he took his own life. police say belcher appeared drunk and sleepy. he was in his car parked outside an apartment building. they eventually decided to let him go if he agreed to go inside the building. it was just a few hours later when belcher killed his girlfriend kasandra perkins before heading to arrowhead stadium where he shot himself. a 25 thousand dollar reward is being offered in connection with the death of a giants fan during the

world series victory celebration. 37-year-old sean moffitt died from head trauma on october 30th. two days after he was hurt during street celebrations in the haight-ashbury neighborhood. police are trying to figure out how he died. relatives hope the reward offer will lead to an arrest and conviction. >> after winning the first two games of their seven game road trip. the warriors faced off against the team with the worst record in the n-b-a. david lee scored 24 points and snagged 17 rebounds to lead golden state over the washington wizards 101-to- 97. klay thompson added 23 points and stephen curry scored 22 to keep his record of seven straight games with 20 points or more going. the warriors are thirteen and seven on the season and are currently sitting in second place in the pacific division. next up the warriors head to charlotte on monday to take on the bobcats.

in the south bay in the sunnyvale, a car hit a power pole reporting outages. initially it left 6600 people in the dark and cupertino, sunnyvale, los altos and los of cosell's. currently, 2140 customers are still without power. they're expected to have power by 3:30. hundred p-g-and-e customers utility officials say a failed power switch caused the outage just afterp-g-and e restored the power in about half an hour. meanwhile, a power pole was reported down about a block away from the source of the it is not clear how the pole came down but utility officials say it's not related to the outage. a car hit a power pole in causing an outage for thousands. initially, it left 65- hundred people in the dark in cupertino, sunnyvale, loscurrently, the outage is 40 customers. p-g-and-e expects to restore service to them by about 3:30 this afternoon. port of oakland employees

new this morning... police in antioch investigating the shooting of a man who was found dead in front of his home. police were called to the area in the 23-hundred before 11 o clock last night. they found a 43 year old man with multiple gunshot wounds. so far, no arrests have been made. in oakland, a fatal square. it happened in broad daylight saturday afternoon and just blocks away from the police department. police say the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. the suspect is still on the loose.

a sign of the season in downtown san francisco this weekend. traffic is higher than usual with shoppers and drivers packing the area in and around union square. more now from kron four's jeff bush who braved the holiday crowds. traffic has been crazy down here at union square but those who chose to drive had to be patient because it's been a slow roll all day long. the drive down oferrel street was a slow motion affair and it took several just to move a block. it was a convergence of pedestrians and other drivers and total gridlock was often the case (horns honking) freyed nerves and impatience were affecting many drivers who were caught off guard by the overwhelming amount of( honking ) and pedestrians. thousands with their shopping bags in you can see that the intersections were filled people every time the light turned green. but, eventually, as slow as it was, people got where they were going and joined in with the annual tradition square, kron four news in san francisco today. the postal service is doing its part to help spread holiday cheer. they're holding sunday mail collection for the next two weeks. able to mail season's

tackle josh brent, seen here in this mugshot, was drunk and speeding when he hit with a curb early saturday morning. the crash caused his vehicle to flip and killed fellow teammate jerry brown. brent has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. a felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. the cowboys released a statement saying the team is deeply saddened by the accident and brown's death. police have released the >> it appears that he was traveling at a high rate of speed. also in his vehicle touched or impacted the outside curve of the service road causing his car to flip least once. the officers felt as if alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident so he was asked to perform field sobriety tests. >> they released a statement that they are deeply saddened by the accident and brown's death.
